How it works

  1. Pick your photos. One photo from your camera roll or computer.
  2. We fix them on your phone.Pick how many rows, then drag and zoom to frame it.
  3. Save them back to Photos. The tiles into your camera roll, numbered in posting order.

A picture that fills your profile

A grid post spreads one photo across several posts, so anyone who opens your profile sees it whole. Pick 1 to 5 rows of three (3 to 15 posts), drag the photo to frame it, and the preview shows how your profile will look, with the thin gaps between posts.

The tiles are 3:4 portraits, 1080 × 1440 pixels. Since January 2025 the profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 rectangle, so a 3:4 tile shows whole and lines up with its neighbours. Square tiles are there too, but the grid shows only the middle of each one, so the edges of the picture get cut off on your profile.

Post in the right order

The newest post always sits at the top left, so a grid is built from the bottom right. Every tile in the preview carries its number, and tile 1 says Post first. The saved files start with the same numbers. Post them one after another without anything in between, or the picture shifts along by one.

Three tips

  • Lead with your strongest image. The top row is what people see first, so make it count.
  • End with a payoff. Each post also shows on its own in the feed: give the last one something to stop the scroll.
  • Put the cuts in calm areas. Sky, water and plain walls hide a seam. The page keeps cuts off faces and warns you if one still crosses.

Questions

Should my grid tiles be square or 3:4?

3:4. The profile grid has shown posts as 3:4 portraits since January 2025, so 1080 × 1440 tiles fill it exactly. A square tile loses its left and right edges on the profile, which breaks the picture at every seam.

How big should the photo be for a nine post grid?

3240 × 4320 pixels keeps every tile sharp. Most phone photos come close. The page shows the size for the rows you choose and tells you when the tiles would look soft.

Will each tile look good on its own?

In the feed, each post shows alone, so a tile that is only sky can look empty. Put your subject across the middle tiles, or add a carousel to each post with more photos.

Is this an Instagram app?

No. Thumbs Photo is not affiliated with Instagram. It makes the image files on your phone, and you post them with the Instagram app as usual.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The tiles are made on your phone or computer, in the browser, and nothing is posted for you. Try it in airplane mode.
